You absolutely do not want to miss Mount Soledad in San Diego. Take the short drive to the top of Mount Soledad in La Jolla. It’s easily one of the best views in San Diego. Enjoya panoramic 360 degree view of the coastline, the downtown skyline, and surrounding areas. Climb the brick steps up to the War Memorial to enjoy panoramic views.

The Mt. Soledad Vetran’s Memorial sits atop Mt. Soledad honoring U.S. Veterans. The 41 foot cross that sits atop the memorial is visible from Interstate 5. This is an inspirational memorial that honors men and women who served our country. Every war is represented all the way back to the Revolutionary War. Browse the 11 walls full of plaques donated by family and friends. Each plaque contains a picture of the veteran.
The view is breathtaking in every direction. On a clear day look south past San Diego and Coronado all the way to Mexico. Look east to view the mountains. Look north to view the University of California at San Diego and Torrey Pines Reserve.
This is also a great place to watch the sunset or indulge in a picnic on the grassy area atop Mt. Soledad. The park is open from 7AM until 10 PM and it’s one of the best places around to view one of San Diego’s spectacular sunsets. You’ll find wide open grass areas, benches, and nature walkways where you can stroll to enjoy the scenery.

This memorial is north of downtown San Diego. From Interstate 5 exit at Grand Avenue/Garnet Avenue. Merge onto Mission Bay Dr. Turn left onto Garnet. Turn right onto Soledad Mountain Dr. Turn right onto La Jolla Scenic Dr. South. Mount Soledad will be on your right. There is a small parking lot at the top adjacent to the memorial. There is also a larger lot further back down the hill, which is a short 5 minute walk back to the memorial.
