It’s time to plan your own wine tasting tour to Livermore Wineries. The Livermore Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in California. The first commercial grapes were planted in the 1840s by Robert Livermore. The Livermore Valley Wine Country is located in San Francisco’s East Bay Area. It’s approximately 30 miles east of San Francisco. It includes wineries in Livermore, Pleasanton, Sunol, and Castro Valley. This is a wonderful area for a California Wine Tour.

Experience wine tasting at Monterey wineries. The California central coast wineries of this area offer fantastic wines for you to taste while enjoying the scenic coastal beauty that Monterey is famous for. There’s so much to do in Monterey. The Salinas location is located in an historic 110 year old building in Old town Salinas across from the National Steinbeck Center. The Monterey location is a block from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This might be the perfect place to start your central coast wine tasting.

Baywood Cellars Address: 381 Cannery Row, Su. C, Monterey, CA 93940 Telephone: (831) 645-9035 Open daily 11 AM – 8 PM John and James Cotta have been producing award-winning wines since 1986. The tasting room is located at Cannery Row in downtown Monterey. Baywood is known for its great Cabernet Sauvignon. When you taste their port, you realize quickly that it deserves all the awards it has won. They produce a large variety of types of wines. If you like dessert wines, you must try Baywood’s Late Harvest Symphony. It’s made from 100% Botrytis, full of fruit with a nice smooth finish.

Bernardus Winery Address: 5 W. Carmel Valley Rd., Carmel Valley, CA 93924 Telephone: (831) 659-1900 Open daily 11 AM – 5 PM *Restaurant *Accommodations 50% of their production is Chardonnay. Their flagship wine is Marinus, which is a Bordeaux style blend made of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15.5 % Merlot, .25 % Cabernet Franc, and .25% Petit Verdot. This is a complex wine with a smooth finish. This award winning Monterey winery also has lovely accommodations and restaurants.

Boete Winery Address: 7156 Carmel Valley Rd., Carmel, CA Telephone: (831) 625-5040 This family owned winery specializes in a blend called Cheval Rouge, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their new tasting room is located in the Valley Hills Center in the beautiful Carmel Valley.

Hahn Estates/Smith & Hook Winery Address: 37700 Foothill Rd., Soledad, CA 93960 Telephone: (831) 678-2132 Open daily 11 AM – 4 PM This Monterey winery enjoys panoramic views of the Salinas Valley from its 1000 foot elevation. This winery has won too many awards for us to mention them all. At the 2005 Orange County Fair Hahn won 3 gold medals for the 2003 Syrah, 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2003 Meritage.

Heller Estate Address: 69 W. Carmel Valley Rd., Carmel Valley, CA 93924 Telephone: (831) 659-6220 Open daily 11 AM – 5:30 PM Heller Estate uses no pesticides or herbicides in the production of their grapes. They are one of the few California Central Coast wineries producing organically grown wines. Every wine we tasted was great. We especially loved the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and the Estate Merlot. The owner, Toby Heller, is a sculptor whose works are displayed throughout the United States and around the world. Pictures of her sculptures adorn the wine labels and you can view Toby Heller sculptures while picnicking in the beautiful sculpture garden outside the wine tasting room. The tasting room manager is friendly, making you feel welcome and relaxed. While visiting Monterey wineries, be sure to make at stop at Heller Estate.

Joullian Vineyards Address: 2 Village Drive, Su. A, Carmel Valley, CA Telephone: (831) 659-8100 Open daily 11 AM – 5 PM Joullian Vineyards has a charming tasting room made of stone in Carmel Valley. It is beautifully landscaped with splashes of color. You can picnic on their outdoor patio and enjoy their relaxing surroundings.The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the wines were all great. We loved the aroma on the Pinot Grigio and the taste was well balanced. We also recommend the Chardonnay, Reserve Cabernet,and the Julien Port. Jollian Vineyards is a recommended stop while wine tasting at Monterey wineries.

Marilyn Remark Wines Address: 645 River Rd., Salinas, CA 93908 Telephone: (831) 455-9310 Open Weekends 11 AM – 5 PM Their tasting room is newly opened and is usually staffed by one of the owners, a husband and wife team of Marilyn and Joel who are assisted by their two golden retrievers, Hogan and Snead. Their wines include Marsanne, Rousanne, Rose de Saignee, Grenache, Syrah, and Petite Sirah. The Petite Sirah earned 90 points from Wine Enthusiast.

Paraiso Vineyards Address: 38060 Paraiso Springs Rd., Soledad, CA 93960 Open Weekdays Noon – 4; Weekends 11 AM – 5 PM Paraiso has 2 wines that are only available at the tasting room. It’s worth the trip to taste their Late Harvest Pinot Noir and Souzao Port. This family run Monterey winery specializes in premium quality wines including Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Syrah.

They do have wines that are available only at the tasting rooms. San Saba is their premium label. San Saba has been producing fine wines since 1981.

Scheid Vineyards Address: 1972 Hobson Ave., Greenfield, CA 93927 Telephone: (888) 478-4946 Open daily 11 AM – 5 PM *Bocce Scheid is one of the largest independent growers of premium wine grapes in California. Their primary business is growing and selling wine grapes to wineries that then produce wine from them.
