It’s where Miles and Jack enjoyed the Blackjack Ranch Maximus Syrah. It has a strong aroma of blackberries and smoke, is complex, balanced and “yummy”. We also enjoyed their Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah called Allusion.

Take the glass down the road to Firestone, where you can then taste for free. Our favorite wine here was the Syrah. It is very smooth with aromas of cherry and plum.

It was full of fruit but not too sweet. Other wines include Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Merlot. Gewurztraminer, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Sunstone Vineyards & Winery Address: 125 Refugio, Santa Ynez, CA 93460 Telephone: (805) 688-9463 Open for central coast wine tasting daily 10 AM – 4 PM Sunstone Vineyards uses organically grown grapes. They focus on Bordeaux and Rhone varietals. Our favorite is their blend of Syrah, Mourvedre, and Viognier called Rapsodie Du Soleil, which means “music of the sun”. It has intense jammy flavors and vanilla.

San Benito County Wineries

Plan a visit to San Benito County Wineries and discover one of the hidden treasures of California’s Wine Country. The wineries of San Benito County are located near the city of Hollister just 25 miles from Monterey Bay. Wine grapes were first planted in San Benito County during the 1850’s by a French immigrant named Theophile Vache’. Using vine clippings he brought from France, he planted his new vineyards in the beautiful hills of the Cienega Valley. Plan a visit to San Benito County soon. Some of the oldest vines in the state are located on this property. The winery sits directly above the San Andreas Fault. It is one of the few wineries to have a major fault line dissecting its main building. More than 25 antique cars are on display in the old fermentation room. DeRose produces award winning Zinfandel, Negrette, Cabernet Franc, and Viognier. As you visit San Benito County Wineries, be sure to stop at DeRose.

Calaveras County There are many wineries located in the heart of California’s historic Gold Rush area. Many are located in the small town of Murphys where you will also find great restaurants and charming accommodations. Another popular activity in Calaveras County is exploring the caverns of the region. There are several that are open to the public. Exploring the caverns can be an adventurous outing and it’s educational as well.

El Dorado County El Dorado County wineries is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and are known as “wineries with an altitude”. This is a scenic area with many wonderful mountain tasting rooms to explore. Most are located in and around the mountain towns of Placerville and Fair Play. This is another great place for a getaway.
