Ashland Oregon Shakespeare Festival
The Ashland Oregon Shakespeare Festival is one of the oldest and largest professional non-profit theaters in the United States. It’s located in the heart of southern Oregon’s wine country making it so easy to plan a tour of Oregon wineries in addition to taking in a play or two at this renowned theater.

We love this annual festival for many reasons. It really is one of the top theatrical venues in the country. The actors are highly talented. The theaters are beautiful. There’s really not a bad seat in the house. The consistently high quality performances and gorgeous settings combine to create a totally awesome experience.

About This Venue


Shakespeare Festival Ashland Oregon The Shakespeare Festival Ashland Oregon produces eleven plays each year on three different stages. The performances begin in February and continue though October. Usually three to five of the plays are by William Shakespeare.

The three stages at this venue include an outdoor Elizabethan Stage also called Allen Pavilion, the New Theatre, as well as Angus Bowmer Theatre. 325 full-time personnel are in the theatre company, which includes more than 100 actors.

Ashland Festival
During the summer months visitors can enjoy a free outdoor “Green Show”. These performances take place in the Festival courtyard before the evening play begins on every day of the week except Mondays. The Green Show features a variety of performing abilities including music, dance, improv, and poetry.

Napa Fun – Bothe Napa Valley State Park

Bothe Napa Valley State ParkDiscover the beauty of Bothe Napa Valley State Park. Stroll through the towering redwoods as you hike along a creek surrounded by ferns, madrone, California redwoods, and douglas-fir. Picnic or camp at this gorgeous park located just off the highway in the heart of the Napa Valley.

Daytime visitors to the park can enjoy picnicking and hiking. There is a large picnic area that makes a nice break from wine tasting. Bring a bottle of wine and a lunch and spend some time relaxing in this beautiful park.

There are over ten miles of trails. The Ritchey Canyon trail takes you on an easy stroll along the creek.

The sound of the water splashing over rocks as it flows downhill combined with the lush vegetation make this an enjoyable hike.

The campsites at this park are quite nice. You definitely don’t feel you are camping in a parking lot. Both RVs and tent camping are allowed here. They have a limited number of walk-in sites where you will find even more privacy.

Napa CampingSome of the sites are situated right next to the creek. During the spring and early summer you can listen to the sound of the water flowing in the creek as you sleep at night.

During the summer months there is a swimming pool open for campers as well as horseback riding. Make reservations for horseback riding by calling Triple Creek Horse Outfit at (707) 887-8700.

Fascinating Caverns in California

California CavernsExplore fascinating California caverns located in the Sierra Foothills and be amazed by impressive formations created by nature through the centuries.

A whole new underground world is waiting for you to discover at these caverns in California. Formations include stalactites, stalagmites, columns, draperies, columns, curtains, flowstone, and helicites.

Caving can be an exciting and for the whole family. Caverns of all ages can appreciate the natural wonders of these underground chambers.

Most caves offer short 45 to 60 minute tours. Some also have longer tours and other activities available as well.

These caves offer a 50 minute guided walking tour. Additional activities include gold panning, gemstone mining, hiking, and geode cracking. Black Chasm was declared a National Natural Landmark in 1976 but did not open to the public until 2000. These caves feature rare pristine white helicites that are delicate and spiraling into interesting shapes with one resembling a Chinese dragon. These caves are amazing.

Directions to Black Chasm: From the Amador town of Jackson, take Hwy. 88 east. At Pine Grove, turn left on Pine Grove-Volcano Road. Make a sharp right onto Pioneer-Volcano Road. Turn right about 100 feet down this road into the entrance.


California Cavern (Calaveras County)

You have a choice of tours at California Caverns. The shortest is the 60-80 minute Trail of Lights guided walking tour. You need reservations for their more adventurous tours. The Mammoth Cave Expedition is 3 hours long and will take you crawling, climbing, and sliding along the cave floors and walls. Even more challenging is the Middle Earth Expedition, which takes 4-5 hours. Visit areas of the cave illuminated only by cave helmet lights. This trip also includes a short rafting trip across Tom’s Lake. These caverns were discovered in 1849 by miners during the Gold Rush. Experience the beauty of these caves and hear tales about life during the California Gold Rush.

Directions: From the Calaveras town of Angeles Camp, go north on Hwy. 49 to San Andreas. Turn right onto Mountain Road and drive 9 miles. Turn right on the second Michel Road turnoff. You will see a sign that says “California Cavern”. Follow the signs for about 2 miles to the entrance.

This facility has a guided 45 minute walking tour that descends 16 stories underground. The natural wonders of these caves will amaze you as you explore its seven major chambers. The first chamber you enter is 58 feet high and extends 200 feet long by 60 feet wide. The variety and beauty of the formations will make this cave tour an experience you will not forget.

Directions: From Calaveras town of Murphys, turn off on Main Street onto Sheep Ranch Road for 1 mile to the entrance. After your cave tour, continue a short ways on Sheep Ranch Road, and you will find yourself at Stevenot Winery for complimentary wine tasting in their historic winery.

Moaning Cavern has been known for centuries as the cave that moaned. You can still hear its moaning sound today. The spectacular main chamber is large enough to hold the entire Statue of Liberty. The 45 minute guided Walk Tour descends a 100 foot spiral staircase. Or, you could opt to enter the cave via the 165 foot rope descent. The 3 hour Adventure Trip begins with an optional rappelling descent and allows you to explore the unlit and undeveloped areas of the cave.

Moaning Cavern also offers an above ground adventure, a twin zip line. Race a friend or family member on their 1500-foot twin zip line, at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour, for the thrill of your life!

Directions: From the Calaveras town of Angels Camp, go east on Hwy. 4. Turn right on Parrotts Ferry Road for 1 mile. Turn right on Moaning Cave Road. You will see park sign.

November 2017 – Wine Country Events Not to Be Missed

November 2017 - Events in the California Wine Country November 2017 is going to be a busy month. There are many California Wine Country events that you do not want to miss. Exciting things are happening throughout the state; from San Diego to Mendocino.

Run through the wine county. Attend special wine and beer tastings. Eat mushroom ice cream and learn more about mushrooms at a Mushroom Festival. Mingle with celebrity chefs and winemakers. Visit the beautiful Yosemite National Park.


November 2017 – Upcoming Events


MushroomsNovember 3-12: Mushroom, Wine, & Beer Festival – Mendocino County
Once the rains begin, more than 3,000 different varieties of mushrooms grow abundantly in Mendocino County. It’s a time of celebration. Enjoy special meals that include mushrooms. Treat yourself to mushroom ice cream made with fresh local ice cream. Taste wine and beer, attend workshops, cooking classes, and winemaker dinners.

Participate in guided mushroom foraging. Other activities include riding the Skunk Train, horseback riding, live music, and canoeing. Check out Mendocino Wineries before you go.


Paso Robles Downtown
November 3-5: Passport Weekend in Downtown Paso Robles Go wine tasting in downtown Paso Robles. Enjoy incredible wines, snacks, and live entertainment. Explore the shops, restaurants, and art galleries of this historic downtown. More than 10 wineries now have tasting rooms downtown; so there will be plenty of wine to taste.


Wine Glass VineyardNovember 4: Howell Mountain Harvest Celebration – Napa Valley
34 Howell Mountain wineries will be pouring their wines at the Napa Valley Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater. Enjoy world-class wines, gourmet food, and a live auction at this annual event in Yountville. Most of these wineries are not generally open to the public. This is an opportunity to taste wines that you may not have tasted anywhere else.


Clear Lake WineriesNovember 5: Vine to Wine Run – Lake County
Enter to run in the 5K or 10K runs. Entry fee includes a long sleeve tech shirt, a logo wine glass with a 5 ounce wine pour, and a boxed California wine country lunch. Spots are limited; so register early. This event will take place at Cache Creek Winery in Clearlake Oaks. While in the area, take time to visit some of the other Lake County Wineries


Yosemite National Park - Half Dome Nov.5-Dec.1: The Grand Grape Celebration – Yosemite National Park The Grand Grape Celebration is an annual event that takes place in Yosemite National Park. It’s an elegant event in a truly breathtaking location. Participants attend a vintners reception, four wine tasting session, and a 5-course winemaker dinner prepared by The Majestic Yosemite Hotel’s culinary team.

This weekend-long event is happening all five weekends in November. A variety of packages are available that include lodging. A great opportunity to combine a Yosemite getaway from unforgettable wine experiences!


Lioness Cellars TemeculaNovember 12: People’s Choice Blind Tasting & Awards – Temecula
Sample some of Temecula’s best wines. You won’t know the identity of the wines you are tasting until they are revealed later. Rates each wine as you taste. Votes will be tabulated and awards will be given to those wines receiving the most votes. An evening of fun at Leoness Cellars.


San Diego, CaliforniaNovember 12-19: San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival
This is one of the largest food and wine festivals in the United States. Taste world-class wines. Enjoy a variety of culinary experiences with celebrity chefs. Explore the beautiful city of San Diego. Play a round of golf. Enjoy gourmet food. Attend food and wine seminars and participate in special wine tastings.


Santa Cruz MountainsNovember 18: Passport Day – Santa Cruz
More than 50 wineries open their tasting rooms for this quarterly event. Most wineries that are generally closed to the public will be open on Passport Day. This is a great day to head to the participating Santa Cruz Wineries for a fun day of wine tasting.

Bring your camera; this is a beautiful area. On a clear day you will even be able to the Pacific Ocean off in the distance. While in the area, think about checking out Big Basin Redwoods State Park This state park is the place to go for hiking or camping in this area. Visit here in November 2017 or any time of the year!


Hanna Winery - Alexander Valley November 24: Alexander Valley Holiday Open House – Hwy. 128 near Healdsburg Six wineries in the Alexander Valley will be hosting special wine tastings, food and wine pairings, festive fare, and shopping for unique wine country gifts. Participating wineries are Alexander Valley Vineyards, deLormier, HANNA Winery, Medlock Ames, Soda Rock Winery, and White Oak Vineyards. It’s a Black Friday event to start the holiday season!
