Calistoga Downtown
Learn about the incredible Calistoga wineries. Napa Valley’s most northern town, Calistoga, means great wine. Many of the Calistoga wineries are smaller wineries. It’s a small historic town It has a more laid-back atmosphere compared to other Napa towns.

You can even camp in a redwood forest at Bothe Napa Valley State Park Hike along a creek and through the redwoods at this park. This is a great place to take a break from wine tasting and enjoy a picnic lunch. It’s located just off of Highway 29 in Calistoga. Browses the small shops and restaurants in the downtown area. Calistoga is known for the hot mineral springs. Many visitors come here for spa treatments and hot mud baths. It’s an experience you should do at least once!

Experience wine tasting in this unique Tuscan castle. The tour is quite interesting and highly recommended. Reservations are required for castle tours. The castle boasts 107 rooms. Rooms include towers, courtyard, stables, a church, wine aging cellars, a dungeon and torture chamber. No reservation needed for wine tasting. This is one of the unique Calistoga wineries that you really must visit.

Chateau Montelena is a stone castle built against a hillside. Visitors enjoy views of the Chinese gardens and lake. Chateau Montelena was one of the U.S. wineries to upset the French wine world during the Paris Tasting of 1976. They did this by winning first place for a white wine. Dutch Henry was established in 1992. It is a small California winery. Dutch Henry specializes in small lots of premium wines. Their signature wine is their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Reverie is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon. They also produce other great wines including Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo, and Roussane. This is a favorite stop for Napa Valley wine tasting. Reverie is a small winery that produces small lots of premium wines. Their usually sell out within 3 or 4 months. Call ahead. It’s a scenic drive back to this winery on Diamond Mountain Road. This is one of the Calistoga wineries where you can enjoy a picnic.

Twomey Cellars specializes in making premium Merlot using classic traditional techniques. Such tenchniques are labor intensive. They also have a very limited production of Pinot Noir. The family that owns Silver Oak Winery in Oakville also owns Twomey Cellars. They definitely know how to make wine. Their Merlot is unlike any other Merlot we have tasted. It has a dark ruby color with flavors of cherry and chocolate. It’s velvety silkiness is delightful. The wine is complex, but very smooth.

This is one of the small Calistoga wineries with a charming, intimate tasting room. Very casual and low-key. Wermuth does not have a website or a telephone. Stop by for yourself. This is the only way to taste this wine.


Vineyardist
Address: 263 Petrified Forest, Calistoga
Not open for tastings.
The Vineyardist is a singular bottling of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. All of their wine comes from the estate’s seven acres of densely planted vineyards. They will not release a wine that doesn’t meet their high standards. In fact, their first five vintages were never released. This limited production Cabernet is reported to be sensational. It’s a wine made to be collected. Sign up on their website to get on their list.
