The Best Homemade Barbeque Sauce
My aunt taught me how to make bbq sauce with this recipe. Over the years this has remained our favorite homemade barbeque sauce.
Everyone loves the tangy flavors of this Hawaiian style sauce on chicken or pork. It is delicious and often used as a buffalo wing sauce recipe as well! Simply spread the sauce over the chicken pieces, pork ribs, or pork chops and then bake in the oven or barbecue.
For an easy party appetizer that will feed a crowd: Purchase frozen Italian meatballs at Costco. Thaw. Place in a crock pot and cover with this sauce. Let meatballs warm 4-6 hours in the slow cooker for a treat that is easy and so delicious. These meatballs disappear quickly!
Wine Pairing: Use a Zinfandel in this sauce and to drink while eating. Zinfandel is a bold, zesty wine that goes well with anything barbecued. Zinfandel can be full bodied and spicy or lighter with lots of fruitiness. Zinfandel suggestions would include D’Art Zinfandel from Lodi, Macchia Wines Mischievious Zinfandel (also from Lodi), or Renwood Winery’s Late Harvest Zinfandel from Amador County. Any of these fabulous wines would pair well!
Ingredients for barbecue sauce:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup of either pineapple or orange juice
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup Zinfandel
Instructions for barbecue sauce:
1. Stir all of the ingredients (except wine) into a saucepan. Heat just long enough to dissolve the sugar.
2. Remove from heat. Add wine. Mix well.
3. Pour over chicken or pork chops to marinate for several hours. Or spread the sauce and cook immediately. Grill or bake as desired.
After enjoying a barbeque meal, serve an all-time favorite dessert such as chocolate brownies or home-made ice cream.
Brownies are easy to make and serve in advance. Home-made ice cream is a special treat that everyone loves.
